Leslie E. Linfield began her career in the early 1980’s in Hartford, Connecticut as a banker following in the family footsteps.  Her Great Grandfather, Claude Clewer, was bank president of North Shore Bank & Trust and the personal banker of President Theodore Roosevelt.  Her Grandmother, Elizabeth Clewer, worked for National City Bank (Citibank, N.A.) before marrying Harry L. McCredie, one of the first State Troopers in New York.

Leslie went on to become one of the youngest stock brokers with InVest in the mid 1980’s, when banks first started introducing brokerage services.  There she worked with bank management and the brokerage team to develop comprehensive procedures to ensure SEC and NASD rule compliance.

In late 1980’s Leslie left banking to join the non-profit sector and became one of the first certified consumer credit counselors and HUD certified housing counselors in the country, and began her public speaking appearances where she talked about sound financial management principals and adult financial literacy.

During the 1990’s Leslie returned to banking before deciding to pursue her law degree. After establishing a private legal practice, she returned to the non-profit financial education movement and in 2002 founded the non-profit Institute for Financial Literacy.

Again keeping with family tradition, Leslie began writing. Her father, Gary P. McCredie, is a nationally respected sports writer and editor.  Leslie has authored several books, including Guide to Budgeting, Guide to Credit & Debt Management and her first retail release Budget! It’s Not a 4-Letter Word.

Leslie is a national expert on adult financial literacy education and the consumer credit counseling industry.  She has advised governmental, educational and non-profit organizations alike, and she has been quoted by the New York Times and Wall Street Journal as an expert on budgeting and consumer credit.  She has also presented literally hundreds of seminars and lectures on personal financial management.

Leslie earned her Bachelors of Science in Business Management from Charter Oak State College in Connecticut and her Juris Doctorate from New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts.  She sits on the Education Committee of the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and has served on the Curriculum Committee of the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University.  She lives with her husband and three children in Portland, Maine.
