Typically, we seek sponsor relationships of a month's commitment or longer.

Financial Sense Content

We are often asked if we will accept advertising "content" or editorials on our site. Regardless of whether or not we have a monetary arrangement with a supplier of content, all content must meet our contribution standards. We reserve the right to not publish, or to unpublish, the content. Advertisers interested in submitting content may follow our content submission process.

Direct Advertising Relationships

We offer direct advertising relationships, where you can specify which pages and which ad space on which pages you'd like to purchase directly from us. This a contractual relationship, and pricing is related to ad size, placement, and exclusivity. Typically, we seek advertising contract relationships of a month's commitment or longer. This advertising option can be a good fit for an advertiser who wants exposure to our audience of readers (i.e. for whom "page impressions" are more important than "click-throughs").

Direct advertisers must represent legitimate businesses with appropriate contact information—phone number, address, contact email address with a "branded" domain name (i.e. inquiries received from @aol.com, @yahoo.com, @gmail.com and similar email accounts will not be considered legitimate), website—and offer services that are relevant to our visitors.

Organizations wishing to pursue a direct advertising relationship with Financial Sense should contact:

Affiliate Relationships

In some cases, an affiliate relationship may be a productive way to advertise on the site. Affiliate relationships involve revenue sharing, as per contract terms, between Financial Sense and the advertiser. This advertising option is usually a good fit for an advertiser like a newsletter or a service provider who can easily track "lead source" for new business generated by their ad on the site. There is no up-front charge for this relationship; Financial Sense takes an equal risk with the advertiser on the success of the ad.

Affilates must be legitimate businesses with appropriate contact information—phone number, address, contact email address with a "branded" domain name (i.e. inquiries received from @aol.com, @yahoo.com, @gmail.com and similar email accounts will not be considered legitimate), website—and offer services that are relevant to our visitors.

Google AdWords

GoogleAds are available in many locations on our site, so you can contact Google directly regarding ad space. They can work with you to target your ad specifically to our site, and even to particular pages on the site where we have made GoogleAd space available. This is a good option for advertisers who prefer to pay for advertising on a per-click or per-impression basis.

Advertising Guidelines

We reserve the right to block, ban, disable, or remove any advertising from our site at our sole discretion if, in our opinion, it fails to meet our advertising guidelines.

Ad Content

Overall, we're seeking advertising that is tasteful, un-intrusive, professional, and relevant to our visitors.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for "adult" language, images, or material; defamatory or derogatory language, images, or material; profanity; misleading advertising; advertising that appears to "promise" or "guarantee" returns or success; and all other unprofessional material.

Ad Format

The ad can be text, text and image, Flash, or any other format widely accepted for use on the Internet; however, no sound is permitted. No pop-up ads are permitted. No "rollover and expand" ads are permitted. Flash or similar ads are encouraged to be 5 seconds or less due to their resource intensity.

Typically, our advertisers provide us with Javascript or other code that pulls their ad from a location on the advertiser's web server.

Ad Size

Currently, there are five banner ad sizes available: 728x90, 468x60, 300x250, 250x250, 200x200, 234x60, 180x150 and 160x600.

Advertising Tips

Audience-Targeted Ads

Our experience has been that ads that are specific to our readership and their particular interests perform much better than "generic" ads. A review of the articles and sections on Financial Sense online should provide a good "feel" for what may interest our visitors. We also provide demographic and other information on Site Statistics.

Frequent Changes in Ad Text and/or Graphics

Because a high percentage of our visitors come to our website at least once a day, advertisers who are proactive about making changes to the visual appearance of their ad spaces and/or in their advertisement content and offerings, tend to have higher click-through rates, since it makes their ads "fresh" to old eyes.

Why Does Financial Sense® Accept Advertising?

Financial Sense (FS), with its free market perspectives, editorials and specialized resource news and links, and Financial Sense Newshour (FSN), with its free interviews with some of today’s top financial thinkers, represent Jim Puplava's commitment to providing excellent educational financial resources to all investors. Since the site began in 1997, we have maintained our commitment to keeping the site and the services it provides free of cost to the investing public. During that period of time, the site has grown dramatically, as have the in-house resources and other resources it requires, yet we still offer its services free to the public.

We made a difficult decision in 2009 to begin to accept advertising on the site in an effort to make the site self-sustaining financially. We feel very strongly that accepting advertising is a better solution for us and our readers & listeners than making the service subscription-only. We should also be clear that our decision to accept advertising on the site in no way affects our editorial process. We have made no agreements with any advertisers that will affect our decisions about the content we choose to host on our site.

Change is always difficult, so we understand that many of our readers may be frustrated initially by the presence of advertising on a site that had managed to remain ad-free for over 10 years. We have done our best to place ads strategically on the site where they will still be of benefit to our advertisers and our readers, while not overly interfering with our readers' overall experience.

Should you ever see an ad on the site that is offensive, or that is placed in a way that materially interferes with your ability to obtain the information you are interested in, we would encourage you to let us know immediately. Your opinion is valuable to us.
