Conversations with John Hathaway and Ian McAvity
John Hathaway, Senior Managing Director, is a Portfolio Manager and a member of the Investment Committee at Tocqueville Asset Management L.P. He is also a Director of Tocqueville Management Corp., the General Partner of Tocqueville Asset Management. Mr. Hathaway, who has 39 years of investment experience, manages the Tocqueville Gold Fund, Tocqueville Gold Partners and separate accounts for individual and institutional clients following a gold strategy. Mr. Hathaway has a B.A. degree from Harvard College, an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia and is a CFA charter holder.
On this week’s Financial Sense Newshour, Jim Puplava sits down with John Hathaway of the Tocqueville Funds at the Casey Gold & Resource Summit in Carlsbad, California to discuss his fund and the gold markets. John discusses what he looks for in a junior mining company as well as what to avoid.
Ian McAvity, CMT, has been writing his Deliberations (TM) on World Markets newsletter for a global readership since 1972. He draws on 48 years of experience in the world of finance--as a banker and broker since 1961 and as an independent advisor and entrepreneur since 1975. Principally a technical analyst, Mr. McAvity has written on global inter-market relationships since the 1970s, including original research on relationships between gold mining shares and gold bullion. In the 1980s and 1990s he served as a director of many junior mining and exploration companies.
He has been profiled by most of the major North American financial media including the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, and theFinancial Post. Mr. McAvity has been a special guest on Louis Rukeyser's Wall $treet Week, as well as on CTV's Canada AM morning show and CBC's Business World.
