Brian Uzzi on Insect-Like Synchronization Among Day Traders

  • Print

Cris Sheridan welcomes Brian Uzzi, a globally recognized scientist and researcher at the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems. Brian explains the results of a study he and his team of researchers conducted showing that day traders unconsciously synchronize their trading patterns in a manner similar to the behavior of insects, birds, or schools of fish. Cris and Brian explain how this occurs not just for living organisms but with non-living things as well and how this relates to the proliferation of high frequency trading algorithms in the market.
