General Comments Last week’s action was firmer Gold prices failing to generate much buying enthusiasm in the universe of Gold stocks. On the week, Feb Gold gained $8.10 to close at $636.40 for a gain of 1.28%, but the XAU (large cap mining stocks) closed lower, ending the week at 133.12, down from 134.78 for a loss of 1.23%. Financial Sense Junior Gold Index While large cap gold miners ended lower, the Small cap names in the FSO Junior Gold Index edged slightly higher. On the week, the Financial Sense Junior Gold Index [FSJG] ended at a reading of 276.88, up 1.43 from the prior week’s close of 275.45. The gain of approximately one half percent left the index above the 50-day average at 273.48 and the 200-day average at 245.13. 50-day & 200-day Moving Averages
Within the sub-indices, the Junior Producers ended flat with the FS Junior Producer Index finishing at 310.22, down .09 from the prior week's close of 310.31. For the Producer Index, the 50-day average finished at 305.62, with the 200-day average at 245.13. Development stocks were the big loser among the sub-indices in last week's market, with the FS Junior Development Index finishing lower at 645.97, down 8.03 index points or 1.22% from the prior week's close of 654.00. For the Development stocks, Friday's close of 645.97 left the index below the 50-day average at 670.27 and above the 200-day average at 655.45. Finally, as has been the case for some time, smaller exploration oriented stocks have been buoyant, with the FS Exploration Index ending the week higher by 2.50% to close at 152.22, up from the prior week’s close of 148.50.
