General Comments

This week’s update is abbreviated owing to the long holiday weekend, so we present “Just The Facts” for the week ended August 31st. It was a good week for the metals, with Spot Gold gaining from $667.90 to a close of $672.60, a gain of $4.70 or .7%. Silver also gained ground with nearby spot gaining $.08 to finish at $12.04, with spot Platinum up $18.00 to close at 1263.00. Large cap mining stocks edged higher with the XAU gaining 1.34 index points and the HUI tacking on 2.25. The gains in larger cap mining stocks were not duplicated by small cap miners, where the FSO Junior Mining Index fell 2.43 index points or .9% to end the week at 249.29, down from 251.72. On Friday, the 50-day average for the FSO Junior Mines ended at 288.11, with the 200-day average at 293.89. Among the Sub-Indices, the FSO Junior Producers ended virtually unchanged, slipping .10 to close at 251.41, down from 251.51. For the Junior Producers, the 50-day average ended at 285.58, with the 200-day average at 314.11. Development stage companies also lost ground, with the FSO Junior Development Index ending at 471.89, down 5.75 index points from 477.64, with the 50 day average at 554.27, and the 200 day average at 643.23. Finally, Exploration stocks, the best performers of 2007 and the only small cap index still in positive territory for the YTD, ended lower at 169.62, down 2.28 index points from last weeks close at 171.90. For the FSO Junior Exploration Index, the 50-day average ended at 196.02, with the 200- day average at 175.76.
