General Comments

It was a turnaround recovery week for the precious metals sector as prices rebounded in the wake of the most striking downside corrections seen in many years. The precious metal strength came as the US Dollar eased off multi-month highs, with the Dollar Index slipping .34 on the week to end at a reading of 76.81, down from 77.15. With the Dollar moving lower, Gold prices rebounded adding $36.45 to close at $821.95, up from $785.50 the prior week for a gain of 4.64%. With Gold strengthening, Silver prices also rebounded to end at $13.34 up from $12.69, recording a gain of $.65 per ounce or 5.12%. Platinum rose $64/oz top end at $1431, up from $1367 the prior week. With metal prices sharply higher, mining stocks also enjoyed something of a recovery bounce, with the XAU Index gaining 11.36 index points to finish at 148.85, up 8.26% with the HUI Index ending higher by 8.65% to close at $342.80. Junior Mining stocks rebounded with the Financial Sense Junior Gold Mining Index up 7.38 index points or 4.11% to close at 186.59, up from last weeks close of 179.21. For the FSO Junior Mining Index, the 50 day moving average ended at 209.87, with the 200 day moving average at 247.35. Junior Producers gained 6.91% to close at 229.82, with the 50 day average at 251.88 and the 200 day average at 268.37. Development stocks edged lower, the Development Index closing down 4.22 index points or 1.11% on the week, it finished at 375.71, down from 379.93. The 50 day average for the Development Index ended at 425.28, the 200 day average at 466.49. Exploration Stocks ended at 107.28, up 6.06 index points from 101.22 the prior week, a gain of 5.98%. For the Exploration Index, the 50 day average ended at 122.52, with the 200 day average at 161.82. The D&E Index ended at 174.38, up 2.03% from the prior week close of 170.90. The 50 day average ended at 198.21, the 200 day average at 237.99. This week, -- just the facts.
