What is a feed? What is RSS?

A feed automatically delivers regularly updated summaries of web content, including headlines that link to full versions of that content. Whey you subscribe to a feed using a feed reader, you'll be able to quickly see summaries of new information in one place, such as your favorite customizable homepage.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a widely-supported format for feeds. RSS feeds are usually identified by the following button because they are distributed in Extensible Markup Language (XML) format.

How do I subscribe to the Financial Sense RSS feed?

To subscribe to the Financial Sense RSS Feed, you will need a feed reader (or news aggregator). Feed readers allow you to subscribe to and view many feeds. By automatically retrieving updates, they can help you stay current with our premium editorials soon after they are published. We will be updating our RSS feed logs at 12:00PM Noon PST and by 4:00PM PST.

Different feed readers are available, many for free. Some are applications that you download and install. Others are web-based and work inside your browser. These News Readers can be downloaded by clicking on the following links:

To subscribe to the Financial Sense RSS Feed in your reader, right-click on one of the feeds and select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link Location." Follow the instructions for your particular feed reader to paste this location (URL) where it asks for the URL of the feed you wish to subscribe to.

You can subscribe to RSS feeds in a number of ways, including the following:

  • Drag the orange into your News Reader

The latest versions of popular web browsers also support feeds directly. Their feed link icon is usually identified by this button:  or  . In these browsers you can simply click on the feed link to view or subscribe to it. Note: you will need a feed reader or current browser to subscribe to feeds. If you click on a feed link in an old browser, it may display unfriendly, unformatted code.

Live Bookmarks

Live Bookmarks is a new technology in the Mozilla Firefox web browser that allows a user to view RSS feeds.  A site is enabled for Live Bookmarks when you see this icon  on the bottom right corner of the web browser.  Clicking on the icon and selecting an RSS feed will bring up the "Add Bookmark" dialog. Select 'OK' and you will see Live Bookmarks with the rest of your bookmarks. Many people find it especially convenient to save Live Bookmarks in their Bookmarks Toolbar folder. This feature is now available for Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.
