Biography
Jay Hakes, Ph.D., has served as Director of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum since June 2000. An alumnnus of the Carter administration, Hakes spent most of his time there as an assistant to Secretary of Interior Cecil Andrus. During most of the 1990s, Hakes headed the highly regarded Energy Information Administration at the U.S. Department of Energy. He continues to speak on contemporary energy issues and the modern presidency. Hakes has been frequently sought after by both sides of Congress, has testified before congressional committees more than 25 times, and has been frequently quoted in the mainstream press and broadcast media, including The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Fox News Network. He was formerly a professor of political science at the Unviersity of New Orleans.
