@War: The Rise of the Military-Internet Complex

The Growing Risk of an International Cyberwar

  • Print

Cris Sheridan welcomes Shane Harris, Senior Correspondent at Daily Beast and a Fellow at New America, to discuss his new book, @War: The Rise of the Military-Internet Complex. Shane talks about the alliance between the public and private sector in cyberspace, which has become the "fifth domain" of warfare. He also notes the increasing frequency of cyberattacks from China and Russia and the attempts being regularly made to gather intelligence on our critical infrastructure: the power grid, banking system, pipelines, waterlines, etc. Cris and Shane also discuss the risks posed by companies engaged in “hack backs” against foreign intruders and how this could potentially escalate into an international cyberwar.
