Biography
Betsy is an internationally recognized expert in philanthropy. She is the co-founder and President of Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd., a Multi-Family Philanthropic Office® working with ultra-high net worth individuals, families and family-owned businesses founded in 2000.
Since the firm’s beginning in 2000, Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd., has made educating and supporting the advisor community around integrating philanthropy into their practice a priority. To ensure successful partnerships with advisors, the firm remains conflict-free, donor-centric and vehicle agnostic. The focus is on helping clients to create and implement lifetime and legacy strategies that achieve impact and align with their passions.
A large part of the firm’s work centers around helping families integrate values and philanthropic interests across generations. Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd. has a strong international presence as well. This is reinforced by Betsy’s role as a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and as Co-Chair of STEP’s Philanthropy Special Interest Group.
Betsy is a prolific writer and speaker; she has authored pieces for the Journal of Practical Estate Planning, Alliance Magazine and STEP Journal, among others. She has been a featured speaker at such venues as: the Chicago Estate Planning Council; Exponent Philanthropy; the Council on Foundations—Family Philanthropy Conference; Pacific Northwest Global Donors Conference; the William Blair & Company Family Wealth Conference; University of Chicago Booth School of Business; the Southeast Family Office Forum, and Financial Advisor Magazine’s Invest in Women Conference. Additionally, she has participated in webinars on philanthropy for CELESQ, National Center for Family Philanthropy, Family Office Metrics and Fidelity Charitable. In addition to her MBA from Thunderbird School of Management, Betsy has a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Roosevelt University.
