How the Faithful City Became a Harlot

In the first chapter of the book of Isaiah we read: "How is the faithful city become a harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers." This passage is used at beginning of a new book, titled Whores: Why and How I Came to Fight the Establishment. The author of this book is Larry Klayman, the founder and former chairman of Judicial Watch. He has dedicated his career to fighting injustice and restoring ethics to the legal profession and to government. Anyone attempting to understand Washington D.C. should read this book.

I had a chance to talk with Larry KIayman on Wednesday, November 11. I believe that Klayman has done something courageous because he has listed the sins of Washington, affixing to his general indictment the names of the most famous Republicans and Democrats. I said to Klayman that the tendency of the public is to shrug off corruption as normal. But never before has there been corruption like this.

"Well there never has," Klayman agreed, "and that's a very good way to put it. You know, things are worse and worse, and the title of my book, 'Whores: Why and How I Came to Fight the Establishment,' comes from the Bible, from the book of Isaiah, from the Old Testament, where the faithful city has become the tarnished city ... and everyone takes a bribe, widows and orphans are abandoned; and God calls upon the counselors and judges ... to restore the tarnished city to a faithful city. In our society the lawyers and the judges are incapable of doing that. In fact, they are the primary problem. The legal system has become so corrupt that it can't address the corruption that exists in Washington and around the country ... and we now see the result.... We see a total breakdown, an inability to govern this country domestically and internationally. We had Clinton plus Bush. Both of them drove this country into the tank. And they gave rise to the nervous reaction to Obama, a far left socialist ... and we are in a state where people ... can't buy a car, their houses are being foreclosed, they can't afford to send their children to private universities, much less state universities, and we are in a state of meltdown. And that is why I wrote this book. It is a call to legal arms. We need to rise up. We are in a state worse than we were in 1776. This country ... needs to rise up and take action. Not violent action but peaceful action. Whether it's filing lawsuits like I do ... or town hall meetings, or tea parties, or just screaming from the highest mountain notwithstanding the ability to vote; and find decent people, perhaps to create third parties that actually have some power. But we are in a crisis. Our politicians, frankly, here in Washington, where I am today, are more intent on scratching each other's backs, buying $3,000 suits ... going to hairdressers and dying their hair all the same color, which is what they do; and I'm afraid if we don't do something the revolution will go beyond peaceful means and I don't want to see that happen."

Is the situation really so desperate? Are we overrun by thieves and traitors, who are prepared to sell the Republic for cash? The short answer, apparently, is yes. Our politicians go along with the corruption, and the public tolerates it. The evidence shows that U.S. national security has been compromised for campaign donations, and for cash. Despite these revelations, nobody went to jail and nobody was hanged. Consider Exhibit One from Klayman's book, pages 67-8:

"[Taiwanese businessman Johnny] Chung had testified that he believed President Clinton and Chinese leaders were trying to silence him through prosecutions and threats. Reno's Justice Department had indicted him after he revealed that he had given a $50,000 bribe to Hillary Clinton in the White House, and that the money had been laundered through Chinese intelligence. This obviously did not win him friends in Washington or Beijing. He believed that hit squads were out to get him; indeed, press reports said that he had been in hiding."

I asked Klayman about Chung's testimony in the Chinagate scandal. "That scandal continues to this day," he said. "It was a time in history that people too easily forget. And now the Clinton's have been rehabilitated. Ironically, Hillary Clinton would not be Secretary of State without Monica Lewinsky. She would probably be serving time instead." As Klayman explained, the media brushed aside testimony of bribery, treason and the intimidation of witnesses in favor of a sex scandal. Monica Lewinsky's relationship with the president distracted the public and clouded the issues at hand.

According to Klayman, "Monica Lewinsky was the lightning rod that drew the public's attention and investigators and law enforcement people away from the real scandal which was treason by Bill and Hillary Clinton, and even some Republicans, that were taking money from Communist China in exchange for returning favors. In the case of the Clintons, we shipped technology over there through their Commerce Department, under Ron Brown, in exchange for ... campaign contributions, which allowed the Chinese to make their nuclear missiles much more accurate. This came from Loral Corporation. We lowered the export barriers at the Commerce Department which had under Clinton acquired the licensing to send this technology overseas; and this was not addressed because the media, which is part of the whoredom I talk about in the book, wanted to talk about sex, wanted to talk about Monica Lewinsky and all the other women who I not coincidentally wound up representing because they were threatened to keep their mouths shut by the Clinton people. I had to defend them. They were audited by the IRS, their houses were broken into, their kids were threatened. It was a time in history that people too easily forget...."

Klayman explained that the corruption in Washington is not the corruption of one party. It is the corruption of Republicans as well as Democrats. "I don't care who I have to offend," admitted Klayman. "I really don't. Somebody has to say it." Both parties are dangerous, but Klayman marked out the current administration as especially dangerous. "The Obama people are doing what Marx and Lenin could only dream of in this country," he warned. "It could never have happened by force, and fortunately the country has woken up to some degree.... The Obama people are extremely politically dangerous, and they are trying to ram everything through before the 2010 election. They don't care if they lose. They are revolutionaries, and they do want to transform the entire foundation of this country which is based on individual liberty and freedom...."

The corruption in Washington is not something we can tolerate for long. It opens and exposes our country to its enemies. This is what we must learn, and what we must fix if we expect to survive.
