Communism on the March

Have you ever been to the Website of the Communist Party USA? It's worth studying, if only to compare the policy positions taken by the Communists with your own. Are you a fellow traveler? Are you a friend or ally of the left? Perhaps, up until now, you have been following the party line unwittingly.

Dow Theory Update

I continue to receive questions regarding Dow theory and whether or not a so-called "sell signal" has been triggered. Technically, with Dow theory there is no such thing as a buy or sell "signal." Rather, the Dow theory founding fathers anticipated trend changes and during these periods of such participation they would begin to establish their positions ahead of the anticipated trend change.

A Rocky Balboa Stock Market

We believe the S&P 500 around $1,100 is positioned almost exactly in the middle of a “secular bear market” trading range, which we expect to exist for the period 2000-14. At this point, investors may be entering the Rocky Balboa home stretch of "punch drunk" volatility. In a short cycle sense, U.S. stocks may now be a “mid-bull,” e.g. volatile, with a less steep rise to 2010/11 in which the S&P 500 may peak at $1,250 in 2010, $1,350 in 2011.

Possible Head and Shoulders

I have been getting numerous questions regarding the possible formation of a head and shoulders formation on the S&P 500 Index chart. It is visible on the daily chart, but I think the formation is clearer on the weekly chart, and I have annotated where the components of the formation are located.

South Africa has underwent a makeover to host this year's World Cup but the economic impact of the event can last for years if done right.

Hidden Gold Taxes: The Secret Weapon Of Bankrupt Governments

What if there was a hidden tax that most gold and silver investors were simply unaware of? A tax where the government would take a big chunk of your starting net worth if gold went to $2,000 an ounce, leaving you poorer than you started with? A tax that rises with inflation, so that $100,000 an ounce gold could cripple your net worth?

Gold: Where to from here?

Is gold discounting deflation?

The focus of this month’s post will be about gold and the gold shares. Will the price of gold record 10 straight years of gains, or might it be in for a correction? A good starting point might be to understand what happened to gold and the gold stocks in the 1920’s & 1930’s, and why.

The Birth of a New Bull Market

Dock Treece discusses the dissenting opinion that the U.S. equities markets is very near the end of a ten-year bear market and comments on the market's outlook going forward.

ECB Inflexibly Flexible

A Turning Point for the Euro?

Following the European Central Bank's (ECB) press conference following its monthly meeting, President Trichet's main task was to boost credibility. As Trichet makes abundantly clear, the ECB is"inflexibly attached to price stability." To achieve its goal, however, he could have added the ECB needs to be inflexibly flexible. When quizzed on the ECB bond purchase program, a program that may take the ECB down a slippery road of money printing should it not be properly neutralized, Trichet discussed three elements: the purpose, the design and observation of the program.

Riding the Palladium Roller Coaster

As I discussed in my February article, “Palladium Still Shines,” palladium is a versatile element used in everything from electronics to polyester production to cancer therapy. In most applications, such as autocatalysts, cheaper metals can't be substituted. In fact, if hydrogen-based fuel cells become significant in local power and automotive applications, those high-tech uses would also require palladium.
