Jim welcomes Jon Matonis, Executive Director of the nonprofit Bitcoin Foundation. Jon explains what bitcoin is and how it works. He also discusses the advantages of using bitcoin over currencies like dollars, euros, or yen. Jon also addresses criticisms of bitcoin as well as recent positive developments. Jon notes that no other non-State digital currency has ever achieved bitcoin's level of market penetration and overall market capitalization ($1.9 billion as of Oct 17th), which is even more remarkable considering that bitcoin is less than five years old.
